CharDham – CharDham means four sacred abodes – is a set of four pilgrimage sites in India according to Hindu Mythology. They include Yamunotri Temple, Gangotri Temple, Shri Kedarnathji Temple, Shri Badrinathji Temple – all of them are located in the beautiful state of Uttarakhand in India.
Hindus believe that visiting these sites is of divine importance for them and therefore want to visit the sacred shrines at least once in a lifetime. Devotees complete this holy journey to attain salvation by the blessings of the Lord Shiva.
It is located in Uttarakhand. It is situated at height of 3323 meters above the sea level in western Garhwal Himalayas, in Uttarkashi District. River Yamuna is said to be born from the tears of Lord Narayana.
Yamunotri is the source of Yamuna river. There are two pious kund’s ( thermal springs ) near it – surya kund and gauri kund. The temple opens on Akshaya Tritiya and closes on next day after Diwali i.e Hindu New Year.
